@ work

Its been a while since I blogged. There are lot many reasons 4 me not posting ( laziness hitting the list!!!)

Anyways I’ve started my internship. I’m going to office everyday like any other trainee, today being the 5th day(I guess…) Its truly a memorable expeience for me, firstly because this is the first encounter for me with the “corporate world”.Secondly because I actually like the way things happen. I was really awestruck to learn how theoretical science and practice applications are made to meet. Thirdly cause I feel so much at home out there. Honestly speaking, I was terrified initially at the thought of getting acquainted with this new place. Ironically it was much smoother and I could fit in with ease. However the entire credit goes to my superiors who have made me feel so. I have made a few friends now.

But the few unpleasant aspects associated with it are the early morning wake up tantrums of mom. Back ache and the fatigue by the end of the day(god, how much I crib!!!!)
There are after all two sides for a coin……..

Person+ality

A couple of days ago i watched the movie Unnale Unnale( tamil movie). I waited a pretty longtime to watch de movie but never got an opportunity to visit the theatre cause some how or the other my pals were tied up with their own work. Finally the right time clicked(my cousin agreed to accompany me, indeed very generously) and was very excited to watch it.

The movie started of well but i guess somehow it isn't my cup of tea. Apparently the movie speaks about nothing other than luv..... Not that i'm against it or anything but i simply expect a lot more sensible attributes in any story. However the music was super duper. But some thing that which strikingly caught my attention was Thanvi's character( she luks cute too). i was told that she's Kajol's sister(not sure though)

I'd love to possess such characteristics in reality. A very light hearted person who takes life at ease.To live for the moment, not worried about the past nor bothered about the future. So sweet and innocent. All put together "a very happy person". no remorse,no guilt,no sorrow,no worries, no cribbing, no vengeance...... wow! how nice it would be to live like that. To fly like a beautiful little bird with no limits in the open sky.......

chennai heat = HELL

The weather is just terrible. and day by day its getting worse.it drives me mad. The sweat just trickles down the body and i start feeling so damp and sticky. I jus haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate this..... Its jus impossible to expect things to change at this point in time but however i'm losing my tolerance and state of balance. I get so irritated and feel like keeping to myself all day.

The post noon times are the worst when the heat settles down and together with humidity takes a ride on you. and during the day times one must be very stone hearted to step out in the scotching heat. As i rode my two wheeler today i simply could not resist but to accelerate faster.. i felt the pricking rays of the sun even as i covered myself with a long dupata. "its just the start" my dad says... oh god! i'd become a roasted chicken by the end of it all.....

I'm just thinking how much this external variable can cause a behavioural change in a human. They say only hunger, thirst and sex would affect a man's senses. but i do feel this external variable is yet another vital element.

Bad day!!!

To add fuel to the previous incident was the yesterday’s one.

I had to meet the homeopathy doc cos I’ve been getting sun burns lately cos of the intense heat and had to treat it. I went to the clinic at 6.40 p.m., the check up time with the doc took about fifteen mins i.e till 6.55 p.m. There is a pharmacy adjacent to the clinic where I had to buy medicines. Unlike allopathic medicines, homeopathy medicines consists of pills and powder which ought to be damped in liquids obtained from plants.

Three youngsters were employed in that pharmacy. I gave the prescription slip and was waiting to get my medicines. There was just one patient prior to me. But by the time these people got done with that patient, it was already 7.20. I started losing my patience and was trying to keep cool. It would’nt have been a matter for me if it had been very crowded, but to get the job done for one patient itself took them so much of time, that pissed me of….

Then finally they were running about up and down to hunt for my medicines. They had to get Calc. Sulphine. But instead that girl took Calc.Fl and was filling my medicine bottle. Being a layman to all these chemical terms I was wondering wat on earth this girl was upto!!!! I was hesitant but I couldn’t tie up my mouth. So I just asked showed her the prescription and asked if what she had and wat was prescribed were same. Only then did she realize that she had been filling in the wrong medicine. That really annoyed me. But that was not it…..

All three of them had some doubt about one of the medicines, so one girl went rushing to the doctor to ask some thing. Later she came out saying SULPHUR. Only then did I realize that they did not even know to read what was actually written in that slip. I went nuts…..

By the time they got me the medicines it was 6.50. Fifty mins to get just four medicines…….

Senseless!!!!!!!!!!

Today I walked down the lane to go to the grocery store near my house to buy a couple of things my mom wanted. I crossed one half of the road and waited near the divider to cross the other half. On the opposite side where the lamp post showed green signal was a bus halting right in the middle of the road. There was a hell a lot of commotion and chaos because this large vehicle occupied the entire road and the other vehicles had no space to move.

I crossed the road and went to the side where the bus was halted. I was very curious to know what exactly the problem was. So I peeped in and was shocked to see that the driver of the bus got down the bus to actually buy a watch in the near by shop and so he literally “parked” the vehicle right in the center of the road….. By the time the driver got in and started the bus, the lamp post showed red signal. I got so damn pissed with the entire scene. But it was so unfortunate that all of us out there stood as mute spectators taking no steps to pull out the driver and question him on his unruly act.

In such a state, who is to be blamed???? The senseless driver, or the traffic policeman who never seemed to be bothered about what was happening there. This is the sorry state of India. The innocent people were made to wait under the scotching heat while this unconcerned mindless creature happily buys himself a watch. God knows, how many of them were in any urgency or hurry to go elsewhere.

Has this been possible only in a country like India where we care not to abide by rules and mind least about others inconvenience. That man would have been put behind bars if it had been in any other country. I hope that day comes soon…..

WHY EMPLOYEES LEAVE ORGANISATIONS????

Every company faces the problem of people leaving the company for better pay or profile.
Why do talented employees leave ?
The answer lies in one of the largest studies undertaken by the Gallup Organization. The study surveyed over a million employees and 80,000 managers and was published in a book called "First Break All The Rules". It came up with this surprising finding:

If you're losing good people, look to their immediate boss.Immediate boss is the reason people stay and thrive in an organization. And he's the reason why people leave. When people leave they take knowledge, experience and contacts with them, straight to the competition.

"People leave managers not companies," write the authors Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman.

Mostly manager drives people away?

HR experts say that of all the abuses, employees find humiliation the most intolerable. The first time, an employee may not leave, but a thought has been planted. The second time, that thought gets strengthened. The third time, he looks for another job.

When people cannot retort openly in anger, they do so by passive aggression. By digging their heels in and slowing down. By doing only what they are told to do and no more. By omitting to give the boss crucial information. Dev says: "If you work for a jerk, you basically want to get him into trouble. You don't have your heart and soul in the job."

Different managers can stress out employees in different ways - by being too controlling, too suspicious, too pushy, too critical, but they forget that workers are not fixed assets, they are free agents. When this goes on too long, an employee will quit - often over a trivial issue.

Talented men leave. Dead wood does'nt.

" Jack Welch of GE once said. A company's value lies "between the ears of its employees".

A Great guy indeed!!!!

I came across a very interesting true incident... thought it was worth posting......

Scientists at the Rocket launching station in Thumba, were in the habit of working for nearly 12 to 18 hours a day. There were about Seventy such scientists working on a project. All the scientists were really frustrated due to the pressure of work and the demands of their boss but everyone was loyal to him and did not think of quitting the job One day, one scientist came to his boss and told him - Sir, I have promised to my children that I will take them to the exhibition going on in our township. So I want to leave the office at 5 30 pm.

His boss replied - O K, You are permitted to leave the office early today.

The Scientist started working. He continued his work after lunch. As usual he got involved to such an extent that he looked at his watch when he felt he was close to Completion. The time was 8.30 p.m Suddenly he remembered of the promise he had given to his children. He looked for his boss,,He was not there. Having told him in the morning itself, he closed everything and left for home.

Deep within himself, he was feeling guilty for having disappointed his children. He reached home. Children were not there. His wife alone was sitting in the hall and reading magazines. The situation was explosive, any talk would boomerang on him. His wife asked him - Would you like to have coffee or shall I straight away serve dinner if you are hungry.

The man replied - If you would like to have coffee, I too will have but what about Children???

Wife replied- You don't know - Your manager came at 5 15 p.m and has taken the children to the exhibition. What had really happened was The boss who granted him permission was observing him working seriously at 5.00 p.m . He thought to himself, this person will not leave the work, but if he has promised his children they should enjoy the visit to exhibition. So he took the lead in taking them to exhibition The boss does not have to do it every time. But once it is done, loyalty is established. That is why all the scientists at Thumba continued to work under their boss even though the stress was tremendous.
By the way , can you hazard a guess as to who the boss was????????
